The KKF Library is Launched for Sponsored Students

“Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible, from complex world problems and the meaning of our history to scientific discover and technological proficiency.”

-President Barack Obama

For some years now, the Kiiti Kamba Foundation (KKF) has been working to launch a library. This vision came from the sponsored students and their parents. During the COVID epidemic when everything was shut down, KKF visited 40 families of sponsored students to better understand key challenges posed by this experience. One of the themes that was shared by most students and parents was the importance of having reading materials to occupy the young people’s time. So, we listened and took that as a recommendation to begin a small library.

In 2025, recognizing that most of us keep many books that we often don’t use anymore, we put all these together and were able to ship a large collection of academic and thematic books (e.g. Science, Communication, Education, Health, Policy, etc) to Kenya. These will be complimented by another list of African books by local and regional writers and authors.

A knowledge manager, Joyce Sumbi, who’s an Information Science graduate of Thika Technical Training Institute (TTTI), has developed a book categorization system for the mini library which will initially be put in the KKF office for students to sign out when they are on holiday breaks.
